June Franklin Folkie will be held in honour of Mick Flanagan, who sadly passed May 28th. Mick and his wife Helen, who once lived on Temperance Lane in Franklin, founded the Franklin Folk Club in 1976 and soon after the Cygnet Folk Festival. Mick and Helen Flanagan made brighter the Creative culture in the Huon Valley, Mick will be greatly missed. Join us for a dance, a song, a session, a bite, a drink and many a story, to celebrate and appreciate the life of the incredible Franklin Folk Legend Mick Flanagan.
“Franklin Folkie at The Palais is part of the social, musical and Community fabric of the Huon Valley”
The Franklin Folk Club was on hiatus in 1999, but Steve Gadd brought it back to prove The Palais was used, else ‘we would lose her’. “The spirit of the Valley is epitomised by The Palais Theatre”. The Palais is a treasured venue for Folk Music and tradition.
Alice Toner currently runs the Franklin Folk Club as CEO and Creative Director of Hullabaloo Huon. Alice Toner recently resigned from her position as Bookings Officer of The Palais Theatre to follow her passion of running Community Events in the Huon Valley! Alice Toner is currently on the Management Committee of the Cygnet Folk Festival and plans to bring more Folk Events to other Huon Valley Halls in the coming time… Hope to see you all at the Franklin Folkie on Saturday June 17th.
Ross Smithard & Up Jumped Trouble…
Ross put together “Up Jumped Trouble” in 2021 to not only showcase his tunes and encourage and inspire others to listen to and play Old time music but also to support women in music.
RS & UJT are more a musical family than a band, all members, at some stage, have been students of Ross, brought together through a love of folk music.
The band has a shared belief that “Old time” music lies at the very heart of the folk tradition. It is the music that brings folks together to play the traditional instruments of fiddle and banjo around their kitchen table, their campfires and in their community halls. It inspires folks to dance, sing and laugh. We are pretty chuffed to be able to play this type of music and want to share it with others!
The Franklin Folk Club is managed by Creative Director and founder of Hullabaloo Huon (Events) Alice Toner! Hullabaloo is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to grow a sustainable culture of programmes in the Huon Valley. Thankyou to our sponsors Frank’s Cider, Cygnet Folk Festival, Home Hill Winery & Deep South Brewing Co. Thankyou to our supporters Port Cygnet Distillery, Juicy Isle & Quantum Cacao
The Hullabaloo Bar stockist is entirely from our beautiful Huon Valley
