“November at The Franklin Folk Club is always special. Our community music groups all gather at the The Franklin Palais Theatre to display their chosen performance pieces of the year” – Steve Gadd
Performing on the evening: SongFirth | Noah Rosenbloom Trio | The Huon Heritage Ensemble | The Hobart Old Time String Band | Geeveston & Glen Huon Primary School Choirs | Michael Crump | Fiddle and Squeeze.
“The Huon Heritage Ensemble is a Franklin based community music group. The group is dedicated to preserving and performing old Tasmanian country dance music from the 19th and 20th centuries as well as recent Tasmanian compositions in traditional styles. The group meets once a fortnight at Gadd’s Cottage.
Sheet music is provided as well as ear training and discussion about performance styles appropriate to the old music forms. The group began in 2015 as an off-shoot of the Tasmanian Heritage Fiddle Ensemble established by Marjorie and Steve Gadd Hobart around 2000. Marjorie and Steve run the Huon Heritage Ensemble solely these days while the Hobart-based Tasmanian Heritage Fiddle Ensemble is currently directed by Emily Wolfe” – Steve Gadd

While folk music can, in a simplified and abstracted form, be written and taught with standard pedagogy it is best learnt through immersion…only this way is the abstract notation brought to life and only this way is the heart of the tradition passed on – Steve Gadd.
It’s the music of the people for the people, shared and collaborated and celebrated. It’s a celebration of humanness – Tiffany Eckhardt Tiffany Eckhardt runs the Little Boat Choir at The Franklin Palais Wednesday evenings from 7pm during school terms. All welcome, no singing experience necessary.
